The Mining Disrupt News Surge for July 22, 2024 covered Bitcoin in the RNC platform, Mount Gox repayments, the CrowdStrike outage and a strategic reserve.

The Mining Disrupt News Surge for the week of Monday, July 22, 2024 promised a recap of a week packed with big stories, and saved what the host called maybe the most bullish news he had seen in a long while for the end. On that day, Bitcoin traded at $67,528. On October 26, 2026 it was $79,970.

The numbers came first, read as always from timechaincalendar.com. On chain fees were about as low as the host had ever seen them: two sats per vbyte for anytime transactions and four for priority. The price was around $67,500 per Bitcoin, and blocks were coming in a little fast at 9 minutes and 1 second.

Bitcoin Rights in the Party Platform

The recap began with Tuesday, when Dennis Porter posted the news that the Republican National Committee had added Bitcoin rights to its party platform and supported a ban on central bank digital currencies. The host credited Porter's work going from state to state, explaining what Bitcoin is and why states, and the country as a whole, need it. Once again, he said, Porter was doing God's work when it comes to Bitcoin.

On Wednesday, the Republican National Convention was under way. The show played a clip of North Dakota's Doug Burgum speaking about energy.

The host tied the phrase peace through strength to the work of Jason Lowery on Bitcoin as a form of power projection, and urged viewers who were not already following that idea to watch a podcast or two with Lowery. Another post from the convention floor showed attendees spreading what it called the Bitcoin gospel. The word about Bitcoin, the host said, was getting out there.

Mount Gox Coins Arrive and the Price Holds

Still on Wednesday, Charles Edwards posted that 65 percent of Mount Gox creditors had already been repaid, and the price was up. The host reminded viewers of the warnings that the price would dump once thousands of Bitcoin went back to creditors who would sell. That had not happened. The future could still bring a drop, he said, but for now the price was back to where it had been a month and a half to two months earlier, getting close to the bottom half of 70,000.

A Banker Changes His Tune

Thursday brought news the host said he could not have seen coming, at least not so soon. Donald Trump said that JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon, long known as anti Bitcoin and anti crypto, had changed his tune. The host called it a 180, with Dimon now on board with Bitcoin to at least some degree.

Trump also spoke about energy that Thursday, saying AI needs literally twice the electricity that is available in the country now. Around the same time, Michael Saylor posted that Bitcoin had become a political force, noting that JD Vance was the first candidate on a presidential ticket to own Bitcoin, with more than $100,000 worth of it. The host said the amount mattered less than the fact that he owned any, because it showed he was aware of it. Things were changing, he said, and changing fast.

When the Internet Stalled, Bitcoin Kept Going

On Friday, the CrowdStrike outage slowed much of the internet to a crawl. The show played a time lapse of planes being grounded as IT systems failed. Bitcoin, the host pointed out, did not even blink. It kept producing blocks as though nothing had happened.

His lesson was about design. Systems with a single point of failure, or very few, can stop all at once. A decentralized network like Bitcoin, he said, is about as robust as things can get.

The Strategic Reserve Reaches the Press

To round out Friday, the show read another post from Dennis Porter, who said he had been taking calls with reporters nonstop for the previous 24 hours about a Bitcoin strategic reserve. Even the mainstream media, Porter wrote, was waking up to Bitcoin's potential, and eventually the entire world would be pro Bitcoin.

The host agreed and added a warning. By the time mainstream outlets start paying attention, he said, it may already be late for some people, though, as he reminded viewers, everyone ends up getting Bitcoin at the price they deserve.

The Odds on the Next President

The week's biggest story, in the host's view, was the one he saved for last. The show read a post from Dylan LeClair showing election betting odds, with Donald Trump at 64 percent, Kamala Harris at less than half of that, another candidate at 6 percent and Hillary Clinton at 2 percent.

Many people, the host said, had expected a Trump win since the image of him standing with his fist raised after being shot. If the odds held, he said, the country was about to have a pro Bitcoin president and a pro Bitcoin vice president who was only 39 years old. He said it could be the start of a golden age of prosperity, not just for the United States if it played its cards right, but for the world, and admitted he was not sure he would ever live to see such times.

The show ended with a reminder that the roundup returns every week. The conversation continues at Intelligence Disrupt 2027, March 22 to 24 in Irving, Texas.
